Greece Day 7- Changing of the Guard

Our first stop today was the changing of the guard ceremony at the Parliament building. There was a great deal of pomp and circumstance (and two bands!) as the ceremonial guard, dressed in traditional uniforms complete with these red shoes that had black pompoms on them! There were lots of people and lots of police trying to control a bunch of tourists who did not speak Greek. At the end, they placed wreaths on the tomb of the unknown soldier. It seemed a much happier occasion than the changing of the guard at Arlington.

After the ceremony, we decided to attempt our walking tour of Athens again, this time with Mary. We did manage to figure out where we had gone wrong in our previous attempt, and I took some great pictures of the Agora and the Tower of the Winds. We ended up doing some souvenir shopping and had a lovely dinner at this restaurant called the 5 brothers, which had a great location where we could watch the sun set over the Acropolis. It was pretty magical. We had a great chicken dish, the 5 brothers special, which was a stew with chicken, potatoes, carrots, and what seemed like some white wine and lemon thyme.

Tomorrow our real adventure begins!
