Hail to the Chief...and other spring break snippets..
Ladies and Gentleman- it's time for your FF update.
I have always prided myself in always getting done whatever I needed to accomplish, despite the detriment to my mind, body, soul. Well, I have done it again.
I spent Monday and Tuesday working in the yard. Now, those of you who know me very well are sitting there thinking, "What the hell? The allergy queen worked in her yard willingly?" Yes, yes I did. My grandfather tilled me a new flowerbed so I tore out the monkey grass out of the old flowerbed to line the new one. Then I planted some daisies in the old flowerbed previously infested with monkey grass. I hate monkey grass.
Tuesday night was YRs, and there were great stories as usual. Those people never cease to surprise me and usually make me double over in laughter.
Wednesday morning, before the sun rose, Mary and I drove to Knoxville. We had some good sisterly time, and she re-discovered what I was like after too much caffeine. When we got there I took her to McKays and all of my other little favorite places that make me love Knoxville so much. I dropped her off with her future roommate and went to spend time with my friends. It was an interesting evening. :) I love to do nice things for people, especially when I know it will exasperate them. There are no real ulterior motives.
Thursday morning I slept in (yay after I had had no sleep recently) and then I went and ate lunch with Fisch and her former student Grant. Wow. It was a lot of fun. I really should hook Grant up with my sister because they would be great for each other. I really miss Fisch, but I know that God has a plan for all things. There is a reason I am here in Memphis and not in Knoxville. After lunch, I picked up Mary and we went to see Hitch with my friend Adam. Hitch was hilarious-- I highly recommended it if you are looking forward to a light-hearted movie that will make you laugh. Adam is so cute in his "I don't want to be cute" kind of way and a great friend too. See my earlier post "friend frenzy" for his blog info. My favorite new feature on his blog is his "Word of the day." I always learn something from him, which I think is what keeps me coming back.
Late Thursday night (~9PM CST) I met up with my parents, and Dad and I drove back to Memphis. It was crazy. We had to take a detour through Nashville because the interstate was closed. Dad and I got home about 2 AM, and I had to be up and on my way to see the president only a few hours later.
The Bush visit was great although I had to get up WAY too early. I got there around 6:45 only to be greeted by a throng of other people wanting to get in to see the President. I sat two seats down from someone who got pulled out for "protesting." I'm just glad they had metal detectors and such because it would be really scary to think that I could have been sitting next to a suicide bomber who wanted to blow us all to smitherenes (I know I have a vivid "what if" imagination. This is my blog, indulge me here.) I really respect Bush because he is so personable. He started out talking about the separation between church and state and that it is our obligation as Americans to lift other people up and show them what it really means to be free by mentoring others, helping out the less fortunate, etc. They put together a great panel of constituents. Harold Ford Jr. was there. King Willie was not, but that isn't surprising. The social security plan sounds like a good deal, but I think there are a lot of people out there (as always) who are misinformed. It sounded pretty idiot-proof, and it at least it built up some assets so that if you died young, your offspring would reap some benefit from the SS system instead of your money going back into the fold. I like the fact that having some sort of ownership in the money I send up there will guarantee that I at least get something for all of the years I am paying for other people. :) It is one of those, if you can't beat them, join them ideas. That is not going to stop me from pouring $$ into my IRA though. I just wish churches would get off their collective duffs and take care of thier own flocks so the government wouldn't have to.
After the presidential visit, I ate breakfast with DD at Blue Plate cafe. It was very nice of him to hang with me since no one else seemed to want to or have time to. Pleasant company, interesting discussion, and good food are a delicious combination.
The rest of the day, I spent running around. Now it is time to relax.
Until next time,
FF
